E9 Firehouse & Gastropub is the pub inside Engine House No. 9 on North Pine Street, just off Sixth Avenue. The firehouse went up in 1907 to cover the North End, and in 1919 it became the last station in Tacoma to give up its horses for motorized equipment. It closed in 1965, was later restored with a tavern downstairs, and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The bar sits where the stable gate was.
It’s the family-friendly sister to E9 Brewing Co., which calls itself Tacoma’s first craft brewery and keeps a separate 21-and-over taproom on Fawcett Avenue. Takeout is available, and the pub hosts events.
