Chez Lafayette is a Cajun-Creole brasserie on Tacoma Avenue South, from the family behind Bourbon Street Creole Kitchen in Puyallup. The long, narrow dining room gets lots of natural light and a view over downtown and the bay. Dinner runs through crawfish hush puppies, NOLA-style barbecue shrimp, cornmeal-fried catfish with honey butter, fried chicken with gumbo and a shellfish couvillion, with fresh beignets for dessert.
Weekend brunch adds crab cake benedicts, shrimp and grits, crawfish étouffée and shrimp po’boys. There’s a bar up front, and a separate Voodoo Bar room takes private parties of up to 25.
