The Spar, on North 30th Street in Old Town, is one of Tacoma’s oldest taverns, with a mahogany bar and red-brick walls. The kitchen sticks to pub standards: burgers, a patty melt, a French dip, fish and chips, panko-crusted Alaskan halibut, Wisconsin cheese curds and a Bavarian pretzel. There’s a kids’ menu, and the tavern hosts live music.
Curran Coffee runs the corner cafe next door, and an open doorway connects the two.
