Beach Tavern is a neighborhood bar on Sixth Avenue out by Titlow Park, and it bills itself as the oldest bar in Tacoma. The kitchen says it makes everything from scratch, and the menu runs long: hand-pressed burgers, an oyster burger when oysters are available, jojos, a prime rib dip and a half chicken that takes 20 to 30 minutes.
Breakfast is served Saturday and Sunday mornings. Weekly specials include steak and baked potato on Mondays, spaghetti on Tuesday nights and Taco Thursday, and clam chowder is on the menu only on Mondays and Fridays.
