About

Tatanka Take-Out is the place on Pearl Street with the neon bison sign out front. It started on Vashon Island and moved to Ruston in 2000, and bison has been the star of the menu since day one, turning up in burgers, sausage, chili, burritos and soup. The name is the Lakota word for bison, and there are vegetarian meals too.

Bison pictures and painted portraits hang on the walls inside. Owner Nathan Thomas is often the one cooking, and regulars tend to strike up conversations while they wait in line. Orders can also be placed online.
